500 HAIER Air Conditioning systems, 27,561 LED lights (lamps) and 1500 Solar LED Street Light Systems, gifted by the National Development and Reform Commission of the People Republic of China to the people of Tonga. The solar streetlights were distributed to each constituencies of Tongatapu and to all of Outer islands. This part of the Department for Energy’s aim to ensure the whole of Tonga is receiving and taking full advantage (with justifiable evidences of the solar streetlight for their safety) of clean, secure and enjoyable renewable energy.

The Energy Department is responsible for the country’s energy planning and development continues to work hands in hands with the Tonga Energy Road Map (TERM) under the umbrella of the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Energy, Disaster Management, Meteorology, Information and Communication (MEIDECC).
